Seen in Public

Today I was at Walmart at 2:30 in the afternoon, and I saw three different dads with a child in pajamas. Like, fuzzy fleece definitely pajamas (well, 2 were definite, and one I’m pretty sure). Not that I think it’s a big deal; I just thought it was funny, because you’d pretty much never see a mom in public with a child older than 12 months in pajamas. In fact, I rarely see any kids in public in pajamas, so to see 3 on the same day in the same store seemed notable.

(In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that just last week, I was the mom in a store with a kid in PJs. Pinkerbelle was already dressed for bed and the whole family jumped in the van to go pick up Firstborn, and stopped real quick at Michaels for something Skippy needed for a school project. So, I don’t think I’d really count it, you know?)

ETA:  I just remembered this photo Craig had on his blog about a year ago.  This was all him; I had no idea he took Pinkerbelle to Krispy Kreme in this get-up.  Pajamas and completely clashing!

Anyway, back to Walmart. It made me think of the website www.peopleofwalmart.com –have you seen it? It’s all photos that people have taken of other people at Walmart. It’s pretty funny…and you might be somewhat amazed at what has actually been seen in public. Next time you need a good laugh, go kill a few minutes over there (fair warning: while I don’t think there’s anything really inappropriate, I would rate it PG).

Further disclaimer: I have not spent a lot of time perusing the mentioned website. I am not aware of anything that may be distasteful or demeaning, but that doesn't mean it isn't there somewhere. People of Walmart does not represent my views, and my intent is not to promote malicious ridicule of others.

I recently made a mad dash to the grocery store for coffee creamer (I'm an addict) with my little one in his pajamas. I think the cashier mentioned his "cute pajamas" fourteen times loud enough for the entire store to hear! Needless to say, I haven't done it since! Can't wait to check out the site... sounds hilarious!

You know what's funny? I let the 2 year old wear pj's all day today. Although the only errands we ran involved drive thrus, so no one actually saw him...

Maybe it was unofficially pj day?

it MUST be a man thing!! I was out one day and called my husband on my way home...he was at Lowe's with our daughter so I decided to meet them there. I was mortified to see my sweet little girl in her long underwear pjs from 3 months ago. YES...not only was she in pjs but they were 3 months too small!!! Oh...and the topper was he didn't even bother to put socks OR shoes on her!!! My poor sweet little girl...thank goodness she was only 17 months old and will NEVER remember it!!!

I saw a girl in her early 20's in her pajamas at Wal-mart the other day. As a girl who totally LOVES her pajamas, I would NEVER wear them in public, although sadly there are pictures on Facebook and on my blog. Oh well. the girl I saw at Wal-Mart had really ugly bulky dirty jammies on though. EEEEWWWW! I have been known to take my kids to Wal-Mart in their jammies if they are sick - like last week. I didn't even bother to change them before we had to run and get more Ibuprofen. Oh well! At least they were in they're cute jammies - not the ones that are almost too small and have chocolate Silk stains on them (I cannot get that stuff out!).

Gotta go check out that website. I am preparing myself to be embarassed for the people I see there. I know it will be bad!

OH MY GRACIOUS! I just visited that site and I am so embarassed for Arkansas. I just felt the need to defend my state. Why is it that EVERY time Arkansas makes the news (like the Today show) they interview the overweight chick with huge boobs, no bra, in a white t-shirt, wet from rain (usually from a tornado) with two teeth in her head that talks as if she been on some kind of bender for 3 or 4 days - and barefoot!!!??? I promise we don't all actually look like that. No wonder everyone thinks Arkansas is full of a bunch of hicks! UGH! How EMBARASSING!

On weekends, my husband will sometimes quietly get up with my daughter while I sleep in unknowingly and take her to Dunkin Donuts, it's their special little thing....When she comes home, I'm always amused because she's in her Pjs, usually a princess dress over top, her hair is a rat nest and she has chocolate all over her face! lol. My brother showed my that walmart site over the Christmas holidays...it's pretty unbelievable! lol.

I love my PJs, but the furthest I go in public is when I need to run a kid to school **RIGHT NOW** because they missed the bus or something. I always dressed my kids - newborns even - in clothes, not sleepers, not pjs, during the day. BUT, we do have pajama day - self proclaimed by each kid when it's a day off of school, they don't have anything to do outside of home, and they stay in pjs ALL DAY LONG. By the way, I was HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY to see a new post! I was just bored and was checking your site to look at your old posts...yummy. I love surprises!

I lovingly refer to those folks at WalMart that I like to believe really don't know any better as "Walmartians". But I will say, my boys never went anyplace in pj's. However... my girl...depending on how pj-y they look, I choose my battles. She is incredibly strong-willed...and she's 6!

I wish I'd had a camera the day I saw a woman--probably in her 40s--at Wally World in her silky pajamas. You know the kind, matching top and bottom w/ coordinating trim on the tailored shirt. Watch an old movie and you'll see the men in them. Did she think it was a pants suit? And she had on slippers. Amazing!

The hubby and I saw three college-aged girls in Michaels last week in boxer shorts (a few sizes too small, I might add), Ugg boots and hoodies.

I've never gone out in PJ's, but I'm a glutton for my yoga pants :)

How funny you should mention this because I sent in a submission to Peopleofwalmart.com just last week. Similar story, early evening, a person in full blown penguin fleece pajamas. Except it was a 40 YEAR OLD WOMAN! (Who was bravely accompanied by her teenage daughter). I think I'm daring to head out without makeup on!

I see people all the time in their pjs out in public. I went to vote for the presidential election in my pj's (I was very sick). I have taken my daughterto Walmart in her pj's before. And I have taken her yard selling in them before. I really don't care what other people think I don't personally do it (other than the voting instance), but you never know other peoples circumstances, so I try not to judge.
