When our tornado sirens went off last night, we headed to our (very messy) basement. We were there about 15 minutes, and other than some rain the storm passed us by without causing any problems in our area.
Other areas of the state were not so fortunate. Joplin Missouri was directly hit by a tornado last night, about the same time we were sitting in our basement. Some news sources are reporting at least 89 dead and people calling for help under the wreckage as crews search for survivors this morning.
I was looking for a picture to post, but then decided that it will be all over the news, and I really don’t need to share scary video or pictures of destruction. Let’s just keep Joplin in our prayers, as well as all the others who have been affected by devastating weather this spring.

So scary! A lot of homes in Virginia have basements, but ours does not. I always worry about what we'll do when there's a tornado warning. Last summer, the girls, the dogs, and I chilled in the downstairs hallway with some books and a battery powered lantern during a storm warning. :s So glad you all are okay!
Happy to learn you and your loved ones are safe.
How sad I am for the people of Joplin and other areas that weren't so fortunate. God grant the survivors to rebuild their lives and their homes.
I think it's fine you didn't post pictures of the devastation. We do, indeed, get enough of horrific images on the TV, in newspapers, and on the web. You're a sensitive, classy individual for using restraint.
So pleased you and your family are safe. I just can not believe what's been happening with the weather lately, hope those affected can return to some sense of normality soon as possible.
We live close to Joplin and it is just total devastation! My husband will be going tonight to help out. Very scary times yesterday and we have had bad weather all day today.
Wow. Glad to hear you are okay. I know, I saw the news, the destruction was so tramatic. Tornadoes are one of my worst fears... I will be thinking of the people of Joplin. Keeping them in my prayers. :)
I am glad y'all are okay! It is all so heartbreaking. I am in Alabama & we had tornadoes come through 5 minutes north & south of us almost a month ago. It was so scary. There is just total devastation right down the road...so unbelievable. Praying for all the families!
The devastation in Joplin is just heartbreaking. :-( I'm glad that you & your family are safe!
I'm glad you are safe, too. We don't have a basement, but we have a middle room which we call our "safe" room. It's the best we have. And last night, we spent hours in there waiting out wave after wave of storms--thankfully, safely. I'm praying with you for all those less fortunate. :)
