Oobleck is a non-Newtonian liquid. Don't ask me what that really means. It's a liquid and a solid. You can squeeze it into a ball, but when you open your hand it drips through your fingers. It's really messy, but it washes up easily with water. If you are a fun mom, you won't really mind if your kids do it in the kitchen.
If you are a control freak like me, you'll send them out to the driveway.
Start with 1 part water and 1.5 parts cornstarch. We had to keep adding cornstarch.
It's hard to stir.
Just start mixing with your hands.
It's drippy, stringy and gloppy. You can pick it up. You can drizzle it.
It's hours of fun.
My kids would still be out there if it weren't for the black thunderclouds that rolled in.
Happily for me, the rain will wash the mess away.
Now that's fun for everyone!

I did this with one of my science classes this year and the kids had a ball with it. It is messy! Your kids look like they are having so much fun!
Fun! I am going to try this with my kids soon. I'm excited my youngest is getting old enough now for fun things like this. If your kids like science, you should check out Steve Spangler's website, he has all kinds of great, easy experiments and really cool & affordable learning toys.
Thanks Holly, cornstarch is now on the grocery list. Today is the official last day of school so I'm needing a bit of project inspiration for next week. Only 11.5 weeks to go til Sept!
Ooh, that does look like fun. I think you were wise to call it a driveway activity! :)
Super fun idea! I'd definitely make it a driveway activity too:) Just stopping by to say thanks for visiting my blog and commenting on my Craigslist dining room table post. Your right, God cares about the little things:) And just wanted to let you know I'm your newest follower:)

I've heard of this stuff before. So funny you mentioned sending them out to the driveway b/c that's totally something I would do!! ;) They do look like they're having a blast!
More fun with cornstarch haha I've just started using it, I made chalk paint with it-super fun, but I'm so gonna try this too. Thanks! I'm stopping by from the Serenity Now Party & would LOVE for you to link up to my party too! Also check out my giveaway going on until tomorrow night if you have time.
