Monday I showed you the window treatments I made using the Target shower curtain. But the bathroom was still a little blah. Suddenly I had a lightbulb moment!
Remember these shutters? Probably not, that was way back when I first started blogging.I got the pair for $1 at a garage sale back in the fall. They are real wood exterior shutters d'un certain age, and were already this color. The perfect color for my bathroom!
I also wanted some art, and I knew just where to get it. But I needed a couple of frames, with mats. Monday I ran into my favorite thrift shop to see if they might have something I could use. They had these.
They were the perfect size and color, and were $3 each. A little more than I would’ve liked to pay, ideally, but I figured I couldn’t get it cheaper anywhere else with mats. I spray-painted the pinkish mats heirloom white, framed birds from the leftover scraps of shower curtain, and they became this.
Craig hung the shutters over the tub, and I added a few pretty things to the ledge. I didn't get a picture of it, but I even found a fluffy cotton bathmat in the aqua color at the thrift store.
I couldn’t get a shot of the whole bathroom in, and you wouldn’t want to see the whole bathroom anyway. I’ve decided that I’m a master blog stager. You only see what I want you to see.
So, this total bathroom makeover cost about $15. Not too bad! The success of my 10-minute makeover a couple weeks ago has inspired me to forget about waiting until the walls are painted, and to do what I can now to make my home a lovely place to be.

I love it! I have 2 red shutters waiting for something. I am sure I'll find what it is eventually. I, too, confess to being a Blogger stager.
Great use of the shutters! I love it. I found an old shutter in a dumpster a few months ago and it's been sitting on my terrace since then. I should blog about it and ask for ideas. It's REALLY heavy! I couldn't hang it on the walls like you did (we're renting). But thanks for the inspiration!
Do you have about a week to spare? Please come stag my house with your ideas. I have an old 7-8 ft side window to a front door that's needs to go somewhere. I love your ideas.
You did such a great job...love it! I've got a question for you about hanging those shutters...what did you use? I have several shutters and like Erin, we are renters so I'm a bit hesitant to make big holes in the wall. Thanks in advance :) By the way, LOVE your blog!
Have an awesome day!
They're hung with two screws each, probably drywall screws, but I know he did not use drywall anchors, which make the biggest holes.
Glad you all like it...thanks!
Thanks, Holly!
I would never think to spray paint mats. What a great idea- so thrifty. The final product was beautiful. And so cheap!!
Thanks for the comment! And your bathroom is beautiful... Nice work!
I know what you mean about Tatiana... How annoying. It is so obvious that they are manipulating the competition this year. I shouldn't complain too much, since for the most part they are stacking it in favor of those that I like... It's still kind of frustrating, though. I'll be interested to see how tonight works.
I love this. I have a bunch of old window frames that I'm not sure what to do with, I think I'll hang them over the tub.
Fantastic, Holly!! Love the shutters. Where did you get the towel holder thingy?
I luv it!! taking the "scraps" from the window treatment; what a complete "designer" effect...and the shutters - such a great idea! (hey! we ALL stage the pics, don't we?!)
Have a great weekend ahead!
I love those shutters! How cute! It all looks great.
Oh Holly, this is incredible! It's so beautiful! I just love it. You should be so proud. Thanks for sharing it girl!
I am new here! What a great blog :)
It looks so great. I wish I could decorate the way you do, everything you put together looks fantastic. I'm currently working on sprucing up my bathroom, but I'm certainly doing nothing as creative as you. I can't wait to see more creative ideas you put together in your home.
The shutters and the birds are darling. I love the layering.
Oh, what a fabulous idea!!!! I cannot tell you how much I love that!!!

I LOVE the shutters in the bathroom, it makes such an interesting piece and hanging the frames on them just adds more depth and uniqueness. The colors are beautiful and relaxing just like a master bath should be! Thanks for stopping by my site too!
