Thrift Store Thursday

More fun stuff this week!  Saturday we drove up to Craig’s office, and I got to hit a couple stores that I don’t regularly visit.  A little too far out of my normal range.

My first stop was Value Village.  I mainly just looked at housewares and books.  I got the three Nancy Drew books for $1.01 each.  Don’t know what the penny is for.

One plaza over was Goodwill.  I got three more Beverly Cleary books, this book from the American Girl Library, and Misty of Chincoteague, which I’ve never read but heard a lot of in homeschooling circles.  These books were all $.30 each.

I also got a cute pair of Keds at GW for $3.  I know some people are squeamish about buying second-hand shoes.  It’s not a big deal to me, although I’m of course not going to buy ratty, worn out ones.  These look barely worn, and I’ll give them a good spray-down with Lysol.

Today I stopped into my favorite thrift store, which is also the closest, and discovered that it was 25% off everything again.  I asked about it, and found that every Wednesday is 25% off.  Now I know.

I got this cute little accent lamp, which needs some minor repair on the shade, but I loved the fringe.  Three pairs of Speedo goggles (the kids swim a lot during the summer), which I noticed sell for about $12/pr at Target.  One book in the continuing story of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s family, by Roger Lea MacBride.  Finally, an old silverplate fork (I couldn’t get a good close-up of it, but it’s a floral pattern).  My total after the discount was $6.35.

I almost forgot these!  You can read the story of my ironstone here.  I’m kicking myself now, like I knew I would, and I went back to that GW to see if by chance, two months later, it was still there.  I wasn’t expecting to find anything, but there were three salad plates left, $1/ea.  So I guess I’ll have to build my collection slowly.

O my gosh! I LOVED the Secret At Shadow Ranch! I remember when my mom bought it for me when I was sick once. I laid in her and dad's bed and read it in like 3 hours! That is so great! I will have to add my awesome Goodwill find tomorrow...

I just luv this idea; I really want to play along (its right up my alley, plus, its a vicarious thrill to see everybody else's bargains!) but it's been so long since I've been shopping for anything besides groceries! My next deal will be posted tho, I promise.

Have a great weekend ahead, and happy hunting!

Oh my gosh do not get me started on the Nancy Drew's. Lucky you. I scored a Nancy Drew about a month ago that is an original 25 chapter book for 3 bucks. I'm off to bed to go read it now.
good score on the shoes.

About the $1.01; a lot of thrift stores mark things that way so that people shopping can't change the price. It's really like a dollar but if the price is altered they can still tell by the .01.

I love my keds, good find! Also, the ironstone dishes are beautiful - I read your other post about them, and that sounds like something I would do ;)
