I thought I’d just do a few inspiration photos today. Big projects take a while to get accomplished around here, so even though we’ve been in this house 18 months, it’s still pretty much a blank slate. And don’t get me wrong, I love my house, but it’s pretty builder-boring, no architectural charm.
So, I’m always looking for ideas, and one of the things that keeps jumping out at me is the planked wall. I mentioned it here. Layla at The Lettered Cottage was lucky enough to find planks underneath the plaster in several areas of her home, including this guest room. It seems like suddenly it’s everywhere.
Cottage Living (My Home Ideas):
The other day I was looking at real estate listings in my area (we’re not moving; I just like to look), and came across this room:
Not that long ago my first instinct would have been Run! Run fast and far! Now, I think Wouldn’t this room be fabulous painted white!
I still don’t know if I can create the look in my new suburban house, but I’m thinking about it!

Holly, I just recently joined your blog (and I would sure appreciate your taking a look at mine to possibly follow). You have a wonderful eye for what will work and what won't. As I look at the pictures above, I see about 4 or 5 inspirations which would be easy to recreate. I have to ask -- Is that a paper chandelier on the pottery barn picture? (haha) If so, they're making it just way to easy for us DIYers!
I love the rusticness of horizontal planking. 'Course I love board and batten and beadboard and all manner of cottage/farmhouse wall treatments! Have you seen Twice Remembered planked ceiling? Awesomeness. I think I have most of the pictures you shared saved in my inspiration file too :)
Love those reindeer!
:)
Oh yeah, you can do it! If anybody can do it, you can!!
And it will be fabulous!!
Love these photos!
Lou Cinda :)
LOVE that first Cottage Living photo for a guest room. Very fresh and pretty.
That last photo is cringe-worthy, but you're right--it would look fab painted white. :)
Holly, do you still have the link I sent you to the blog Twice Remembered? She just had a post this week about adding a plank ceiling to her kitchen. You might want to check it out. Let me know if you need me to send the link to you again.
Love all your ideas. I am a big fan of beadboard. I'm with you, things don't get done around my house very fast. I read some women's blogs and am amazed at what they get done. Oh well, there is always inspiration in other's blogs. One day we will get there. Right? Love & blessings from NC!
