Comments and Greenery

First, a little housekeeping matter.  I have comment moderation on for posts older than 14 days because I was getting spam comments.  I'm quite sure that I used to get an email telling me when there was a comment that needed to be moderated, but this morning I checked my dashboard for the first time in quite a while and there were a bunch of unmoderated comments.  So I apologize if it appeared that I was ignoring you; it was unintentional.

A couple of those comments were left by the courageous Anonymous on my post entitled Confessions of a Lazy Mom and Housewife.   That post was an expose of some hot spots around my house, and things I tend to let slide.  Here is one of those comments:

"i think your[sic] all lazy if your[sic] a housewife and cannot even bother to do an hour or two of cleaning a day, you should be fired....Sure, things can slide when you have kids and cleaning dust isn't the most important, but it shouldn't be forgotten and should get done! I have [a baby] but I still manage to make my home acceptable."

That irked me a little bit, I guess.  It's not that I don't agree with what she's saying; as a housewife I have a job to do, but lighten up a little bit!  Nothing in my post was staged, but at the same time it was meant to be somewhat tongue in cheek.  Who doesn't have some clutter around the house?  If there wasn't any stuff, it would be a museum, not a home.  Believe me, I work around here, and my home is completely acceptable!

Now, before I saw those comments, I intended to do a little post on my houseplants (yawn).  As it turns out, it was that Confessions post in which I showed you this:

I also said that once I watered it and all that, it would perk right up.  I did, and it did.  Here it is now:

I also wanted to show you something cool that I found at the dollar spot at Target a couple of weeks ago:  watering bulbs like the ones you see advertised on TV, except these are green plastic and only cost $1.  Can you see it in the plant above?  It's on the right.  They really work, releasing the water over several days.  The soil isn't moist on the surface, but I guess that's because the water is released deep at the roots.

I put them in my ferns that are hanging on the porch, too.

And, the finches did build a nest, and there are six eggs!  I hope all goes well.

Ha! Good ol' Anon, always there to call us out on our stuff, huh? Just ignore it ... I have seen those bulb things but was skeptical of them. I am always forgetting to water my plants, though, so perhaps I should pick up a few!

Try not to worry about anonymous. I think your the best and just being real.. which is why I LOVE your blog! I think I am going to have to try those bulbs out too. I'm going to the dollar store on my break now :)

Your real like the rest of us! My house is hardly ever spotless, with 3 kids it never will be. Its lived in and enjoyed. I enjoy your blog for keeping it real. Ignore it.

Wait til Anonymous' baby gets bigger and starts running all over the house, messing up all the nice cleaning she finished up. I hate rude Anonymous comments. Be classy, speak your mind in LOVE and truth, and don't be a weasel.

Moms should support each other, whether they are working moms, stay at home moms, moms of one baby, or moms of 5 grown kids. Why the need to leave rude comments designed to tear each other apart?

OH MY STARS! What's with all these nasties lately leaving mean little comments?! I'm a lurker who's (hopefully) closing on my house SOON, but I just have to tell you that there are those of us out here who are VERY grateful for you fabulous ladies who show us your imperfections -- it's given me sooo much courage to try things on my new house that I never had the courage to do on the house we just sold.

Also, it makes me laugh when an Anonymous commenter tries to be all "holier than thou" and leaves a comment full of misspelled words. At least use correct spelling and grammar if you're going to leave a nasty comment for someone...it's much more effective.

There are always people who have to hide behind rocks and shout out nasty disclaimers about your life...ugh. Sorry she struck you.

Someone once told me those who speak so badly and boldly of others are just drawing attention away from themselves and their own insecurities. YOU ARE FABULOUS and your house is GORGEOUS :)

Don't be irked by her comment, but laugh at her grammatical errors. They are rather entertaining.

The eggs are fantastic - and I love your ferns! Do you think you'll plant them after "hanging basket season" is over?

I'm sorry that there are such rude and ugly people in the world. But, it doesn't surprise that they will only leave comments anonymously. Don't let your cowardly commenter get to you. Misery loves company - and she must have some real issues. For the rest of us with 'real' lives - we appreciate your candor and honesty. Perfection ain't real - excuse my grammar!

Ditto on everything said above! Anon must not have much to do during the day...

Who give a flying flip if you do want to sit on your bum and eat bon bons and watch tivo all day (not that you do)? it is your home and your life and your blog :) tell em to suck it. Love the bird's nest btw. so sweet.

People who leave such comments are just jelous because you are talented, crafty and a good mother. Usually those people are very insecure, and we all should feel sorry for them.

Why are all the meanies coming out Now. You are the second person this week that has had somthing not so nice said to them. And my thought is---"If you can't say something nice,
don't say anything at all." plus quit hiding behind Anon.

Stay the course.

Oh my, why must people disguise their nasty comments under the guise of anonymous? How cowardly can you get?? I mean, I guess in putting out your life on a blog you are opening yourselve to criticism but it's shameful behaviour for anyone to just be so nasty. Too bad she hid behind that anonymous outlook because I'd love to look at her blog and see how put together she really is. Shame on her.

On other news! I'm going to scoot my butt to Targay and pick up some of those bulb things. I was thinking how I wanted a couple for my houseplants but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for the glass ones. Thanks for the tip!

Wow love the watering bulb. I never have seen those at our Target. It would be great to get those for $1. And believe me, there are plenty of dust bunnies in my house :-( We all appreciate you being real.

Eeew what a mean person to say that! Of course we all post "perfect" house photos but I for sure have piles of stuff and dog hair around the house that needs to be tended to! You know that Anonymous person does too! We just spotted a nest outside our front door in our toparies there's two eggs so far we're wondering if there will be more!

I will have to look at Target for those watering bulbs! A friend has some of the glass ones, and likes them. Don't worry about the bad comment, your blog and home are great! Even if I didn't like a blog, I would NEVER leave a bad comment! Life is too short to be mean.

I hope our spam comments stop...you do the best you can and that's what important. On a positive note, how cool that you have eggs in the nest! It's going to be so amazing to watch when the babies are born and hanging out in the nest! I never knew what those watering tools were for until your post, so thanks for the info : )

I just don't see the point in people leaving comments like that. I see the purpose of commenting as a way to share, have fun and to build each other up...not to knock each other down. Debbie Downer needs a happy pill!

Keep having fun and being real!

I love your statement about the courageous Anonymous! If you and your family are comfortable with your home, who are we to judge. Your home is to be the ultimate comfort zone for those you love. I think you and this blog are terrific. Thanks for sharing yourself with us. Keep up the good work!

Silly "anonymous"! she should stop fretting so and take some time to enjoy LIFE. It will pass before her in the blink of an eye. Hope she doesn't miss it!

I have that same houseplant!! Tried several areas in the house and it didn't like any of them UNTIL...I put it in the bathroom! It LOVES the steam from the shower, and isn't even right by the window. I hardly ever have to water it anymore and I've never had a plant flourish like this before!

Keep an eye on those watering globes. My mother in law bought me a set and while one plant loved them... the other didn't appreciate the constant moisture and mold started to grow on the plant surface and INSIDE the globe. Yuck. Despite my best efforts, the plant ended up dying.

Ugh. Sounds like you were paid a visit by the perfect police. I think the same nasty person attacked (verbally) my good friend in costco the other day. She called me in tears after this woman tore into her telling her she was a horrible mother because her baby (she just had #3 and her eldest is just 4) was crying.

What in the world is wrong with people?! I think Madeleine Albright (someone I don't always agree with) said "There's a place reserved in hell for women who don't support other women". I don't want to go guessing about people's salvation, but I think she was on to something there.

I love those water globes... the trick is to remembering to refill them! I end up just watering my plant and leaving the globe as a decoration! :S
