Thrift Store Thursday—07/02

Back in March when I started TST, I said this:

It’s always possible as well that it will show me that I’m spending way more than I think on my “bargains” and nickel-and-diming us to death! In which case the series would have to end.

I’m afraid the time has come, for now at least. I want to cut back on my spending, especially this month (planning a big trip to the beach!). One of the ways I can do that is to stay out of thrift stores. I’m sure I’m not going to quit all together, and from time to time I may still show off my finds. But having a weekly post scheduled on the topic has encouraged me to shop more, to make sure I have something to show, so I’m going to take away that temptation.

I want to thank all of you who joined every week. It was a lot of fun to see everybody’s bargains! In fact, if you find something really great, let me know and I may feature it in a post if you want me to.

So, today’s TST is the last hurrah! I do have a few things to show. I got this cool glass display pyramid thingy at United Volunteers for about $2.50. Now I’ve got to figure out what to display in it.

At a consignment shop I got a bunch of Nancy Drew books for .99 each, plus a Ramona, and Charlotte’s Web.

Then there’s this: Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Ta-da! Vintage folding opera glasses!

I thought they were kind of fun for $2.50.

Okay, last chance to link up!

1. Please link directly to your Thrift Store Thursday post, not your home page.

2. Please mention and link back to my Thrift Store Thursday post.

3. Please put my button in your post, and I'd really love it if you'd use the code to do so :)

First of all, that pyramid is lovely! I absolutely understand how you can spend too much at the thrift stores! We went through our budget one month and found that I had spent about $160 on thrifting. I was ashamed because I thought I was being careful. :( But I'll still look forward to your intermittent finds!

I didn't realize how much I was spending on my 'thrifting' until I kept all of my reciepts for one month and looked at them again. WOW. You think you're getting such great deals and saving so much money, but it adds up....quickly. Enjoy your trip to the beach!

You have some great finds!! The Nancy Drews are great. :) My mom had a small pyramid...she kept a Hummel in it....

The pyramid is really cool, can you put things in it?!?

My boyfriend put a stop to my thrifting for a while because while the things themselves are cheap, the paint and fabric and whatever else I buy to clean them up isn't. I'm grounded for a bit. :)

I know what you mean about having to stop thrifting. Whenever I come home and tell Evan about something I saved money on or got a really great deal on he always say "be careful that you don't save us all the way into debt". It's true, I can get really carried away with saving money and sometimes buy things just because they were a great deal.

I just found you and am glad I can link in for one week. I find the same "saving" trouble to be true. I do love that thrift stores help us re-use rather than have things end up in the landfills. Thanks for sharing!

God morning Holly.

I could not figure out how to do Mr Linky this morning. Maybe I'm pushing a wrong button.

here is my site address for my post, and maybe you can do it?

I will try again.

blessings, and thanks for hosting.

I understand about cutting back. This has been great fun and I'm glad we are able to participate today. I posted the link to Victoria's thrifty birthday party carport.

Love the glass pyramid. Great find.

I also love the books too. Books are one of my favorites finds at yard sale and thrift stores.

Thank you for the award. I will be posting a reply to that next week. Summer has been crazy so far and I'm so behind in everything.

Hi Holly.
As usual, you have found some fantastic treasures.
I have to admit, the reason I haven't been here the last few weeks is the same. Thrifting adds up just like everything else. Well, that and the fact that I keep bringing things in and have yet to get things out! My house is a bit of a disaster from that.
I do want to join in for the (temporary?) last hurrah. I got a few things this week, so I will get my hiney in gear and write up a post.
BTW, if there is any reason to cut back on the joy of thrifting that reason is THE BEACH!!! ;)
I'll be back soon with a link.

I just found you, too, so I'm sad this is the last one, but I'll link up anyways. *grin*

Great finds! My Memaw used to have a pair of those opera glasses.

Good luck saving up for your beach vacation! We are going to Florida in the fall and I have been trying to watch our spending closely as well.

So you are quitting the party, huh? I understand the need to cut back even on the thrifts! Thanks for hosting the blog party and I"m glad I got to participate a few times.!!!!

I've decided to cut back also. I have tons of things stored up that I need to work on already! That will keep me busy for a while!

Aw, I'll miss your regular Thursday posts. I love living vicariously through them. I'm generally not too bad on thrifting since my main vice is fabric ....

Fun books, I love books! I totally understand why you are ending your weekly roundup. I spent entirely too much money in June at Goodwill. I was ashamed at how much I spent and if my hubby knew he would be upset with me. :/ So, I haven't been in over a week. That is why I had nothing to post this week. Good luck with your goals and thanks for hosting!

I'm just getting into the thrifting and I'm so picky I don't buy a whole lot. I love that glass pyramid though, it's awesome. I gave you an award on my blog: http://delightfuldwelling.wordpress.com/2009/07/02/its-great-to-be-a-blogger/

You always find the neatest things! I had the entire set of those yellow hardbook Nancy Drew books as a kid. Wish I still had em!

I just found your site and love it! Love the glass triangle and can totally see some of those miniature succulents (cactus) in it with something really feminine at the top.
