What Were We Thinking?

Monday night we spontaneously decided to get a puppy. Now, we already have a dog and a cat. Lila, our Boston terrier, just turned two, and is what I’d call an adolescent. Not a puppy, but still childish and a bit of a pain. We love her though, and actually it wasn’t 100% spur-of-the moment; the idea had come up a few times in the last couple of weeks but was promptly rejected. Until our sanity left us Monday evening.

Having recently looked at the website of the puppy mill breeder Lila came from, we knew that there were Boston terrier puppies available. And somehow, at 6:30 Monday evening “no way” turned into “let’s drive out and see them”. Let’s drive 2+ hours. Each way. And get home at one in the morning.

Long story shorter, we put a deposit on Lila’s half-sister. She can’t leave until she’s 8 weeks old on July 25, so we don’t actually have her yet.

We were powerless to resist.

Here’s Lila shortly after we got her.millers 004

And here’s the new puppy.IMG_3175

Striking family resemblance, no?

While we wait for our new bundle of joy, we need to come up with a name. I like “people” names, and it needs to sound cute with ‘Lila’. So far, here’s our list:

  • Libby
  • Posy
  • Lucy (I like it, but many moons ago we had another BT by this name, and we’re not sure if we want to reuse it)

So, I’m taking suggestions. You dog’s name, a name you’d use if you ever got a dog, the name of your firstborn daughter, whatever. I can’t promise we’ll use one of your ideas, but if you have one, lay it on me.

We have a little 18-mo old Jack Russell (10 yo in people years) and her name is Daisy. We picked out her name before we ever saw her and it fits her perfectly.

Oh I know the temptation but so far we have resisted. we have Max the dog,Zsa Zsa the cat, and our two rabbits Rexanna and Thumbelina. I need to keep reminding myself THAT IS ENOUGH. But how I would LOVE another lab...good thing it is not in the budget.
Enjoy that baby when it gets here.
Blessings on your day and may you get in a good nap before the puppy gets there :oD

You can't go wrong with Lulu. Lulu and Lila sounds like trouble to me. :-}

I LOVE Libby! That was in the final running for our dog's name. But she's Sofie and we love her dearly. Congrats on the new addition!

What about Lily--then you'd have Lila and Lily? I like Lulu too!

Several years ago I got your niece a kitty cat for Christmas. Somehow I talked Duane into thinking this was an great idea...hehe! He was this little weeny bit of a thing (the cat, not Duane...well...)and, I think it was Andy who came up with the name, Rex (which sounds like big mean dog name). It stuck. And I think it's a good name: Rex!

Though I love the name Lucy. I named my first cat that. Then was sad later when she died and I wanted to name my child Lucy and Andy wouldn't have it.

She is adorable! I think that she looks like a 'Libby' or maybe a 'Lady'

Yep, once you get to the "let's drive down and see them" point, there is no turning back!! : )

How fun. I've always heard that it is good for dogs to have a companion. Haven't convinced my hubby of that though. ; )

Cute cute cute!!! I vote for Posy...or maybe Olive. I don't know why, but that popped into my head. ;)

That's how we ended up with our dog. we just went for a "look". I like people names for animals too (my German shepherd is named Madeline, my cat is named Walter). Of the names you have there I like Posy.

That definitely is crazy! She is adorable and I think the name Posy is adorable and matches her.

Have fun crazy! :)

Lola! Lola and Lila. I love it!!! Or the previously mentioned Lulu. I had a sweet Yorkie named Lulu. Most of the time we just called her "Lu" because she was really old lady like. Go for Lola!

P.S. Don't you just love puppy breath?

Oh gosh, she is a sweetie! I think Posy is a really cute name. But I also agree with Nancy who suggested Lulu.

Libby, Lizzy, Lulu are all cute.

Lily???? But all the others are cute too:)

Molly. I think she looks like a Molly. Pippy is good too. But, not necessarily a human, girl name, as instructed. Happy naming! ~Mindy

I don't think I'd use a sound alike name (such as Lulu or Lola) that might be confusing to the dogs. How about Sassy or Cookie?

Buttercup? She just looks so sweet and scrumptious!

We named our puppy "June" because she reminded us so much of June that blogs at ByeByePie.typedpad.com

So cute. When we got our dog it was a completely spontaneous decision too.

I would be inclined to say that I think you should go ahead and re-use Lucy. I definitely think you should use an "L" name to go with Lila.

Adorable puppy! I like Libby for a name. We have two cats and dog and it does get crazy sometimes, but it's fun.

Oh my gosh, they are SO CUTE. I grew up with Bostons and I don't think there's any better dog. Except now, my husband and I have 3 labs, and they're pretty great too. There's a little part of my heart that still wants a Boston and will get one someday, but that would be way too much with 3 labs... I love your blog and always check it--just have never commented!
