What’s New is Old

A couple months ago, I posted about my abiding love for my sofa, and sadly, how after nearly a decade of faithful service it was beginning to deteriorate.IMG_2075

I toyed briefly with the idea of having a slipcover made for it, but figured out that it was going to cost nearly as much as buying a new one. I ordered Surefit slipcovers from overstock.com (color: coffee). They didn’t fit, and now I’ve got to go through the hassle of returning them.

So I’ve been watching craigslist for something nice at a good price. Although I’ve never thought I was a fan of sectionals, I’ve had it in mind to flip-flop the functions of the family room and living room, and thought a nice sectional would work well in the living room-to-be-tv room.

Okay, I’ll cut to the chase…last weekend I found a guy selling a sectional at the unheard of price of $350. It’s the same brand (Broyhill) and basically the same design as our old one. It’s in good shape, and Craig got him down to $260!

IMG_2554 It’s a similar color, but a more casual chenille. I like the nailhead trim.

We haven’t arranged everything yet or moved all the furniture around, so I’ll just give you this glimpse. But we tested it out tonight for family movie watching, and all five of us fit, and it was comfy! I’m hoping to get everything moved around this weekend.

Patience paid off! At one point, Craig was actually going to make a 12-hour drive (round trip) to Chicago and back in one day, to pick an Ektorp sectional at Ikea. That would’ve been over $1000. So I’m happy with my new couch, which is the same as my old couch, and cost one quarter of that!
