Home Reserve Chair Reveal

As promised, here it is: the finished chair.  It is the Laney chair in Eureka Natural fabric.

Eureka is a textured cotton fabric.  It is spot clean only.  However, both the seat and back cushions are reversible for double the wear.  That’s more than I can say for some discount furniture stores (like Ashley) that have one-sided cushions.  Home Reserve does offer many machine washable fabrics, including a selection of stain-resistant fabrics for pet owners.

I’m wondering if I got the last of Eureka Natural, because it is no longer on the website.  Eureka Bleached Natural, a pure white,  is still available, though.   I was originally leaning toward the Tux chair in a  houndstooth, but decided on very neutral since I wasn’t sure where the chair would ultimately end up.  I also changed my mind and went with the more traditional rounded arms of the Laney over the modern arms of the Tux.

Craig is 6’2”, and said after sitting in it that he has a good first impression.

I am 5 ft even, and while I found it a little too deep to comfortably sit with my feet on the floor, that is my reality with any chair.  Curled up like this, as I pretty much always do, I was quite comfy.

I think my favorite feature is the under seat storage.  Seriously, how awesome is that?!  I have since taken three times that many magazines and catalogs from the coffee table, which was in danger of disappearing under the load, and hidden them in the chair.  Think how much storage you would have with a full sofa, or, good grief!, a sectional!  Games, blankets and throws, seasonal decor, canned or paper goods if you lack a pantry…the possibilities are endless!

I think it’s a very good-looking chair!  My Target pillow adds a nice shot of color, but you can order throw pillows from Home Reserve in any of their fabrics, as well as ottomans, wall art, and designer storage cubes.

The seat cushion is definitely firm, but I didn’t find it uncomfortable; granted, I have yet to sit in it for longer than 30 minutes.  The company president said that in the past their foam was too firm, but they have made improvements in the last couple of years.  Based on that, I imagine it will break in a little with use.  I will weigh in on that at a later date.

My overall first impression of Home Reserve is very favorable (and I’m not just saying that because they sent me a free chair!).  Yesterday I gave them good marks for fast delivery, packaging, engineering and ease of assembly.  Today I give them thumbs up for looks, affordability (chairs start at $179; this one would cost $230), unique features, and reasonable comfort.  Durability and long-term comfort will need future analysis.

What do you think?

Just looking at your pictures I can tell they've made big improvements since my mom ordered hers! This looks about a million times more comfortable! (See the way your foot is sinking into the foam in the pic of you curled up in it? We had ours for over a year and the foam was still too hard for that, if you flopped down on it you would literally bounce back up.) Kudos to them for realizing there was a problem and taking steps to correct it!

It's a nice looking chair. I really like the textured fabric.

Where that chair has a storage area, my furniture has springs.Having plywood right under the cushion might contribute to a firm feeling in the seat.

I think it looks great. And I just love the idea of the storage space underneath the cushion. Frankly, I find most upholstered pieces TOO soft for comfort. I like the idea of having a plywood "bench" underneath thick foam--more support = more comfort to me.

I face the same feet-won't-reach-the-floor problem as you. I'm 5'6", so I'm not short, but my legs are really short. I'm always reaching for a pillow to put behind my back. On the other hand, my husband is 6'7" and my 17-year-old is 6'9", so they need lots of depth in chairs. We go for deep and keep throw pillows on hand. :)

Hi there. I stumbled across your blog, and am super interested in this furniture! I need a giant sectional, and they seem to be great and affordable. I'll have to keep checking back in on your blog to see how it holds up!

I'm still not completely sold...I really like the material/color, but the arms don't look like they have much padding. But that may be b/c of the way I'm looking at the photo. I'd have to give the storage option a two thumbs up. :)

Very interested in this. I have never heard of Home Reserve. I would like it if you would post an additional post later on after you and your family have used the chair. I love the hidden storage feature - that could very useful!

I love it!!!! I love the fabric you picked. Glad it's comfy so far. Love the hidden storage. Mine would probably be full of Cars, trains, baby dolls and plastic food. Be sure and let us know how it is after you sit for awhile.

It looks good...you look adorably comfy curled up in it. I have short legs too. We like our furniture firm but not too firm. I love the fabric, but with two little boys we couldn't do that color not washable. You both looked pretty comfortable and we have me 5'6" and hubby 6'4" so I can relate to your furniture size challenge. Thank you for your honest evaluation. Look forward to hearing more on it later!

Hello,

I was wondering if you have any new reports on how this chair is holding up? We are interested in ordering, but we would use it for our familyroom sofa and need it to hold up for at least a few years.
