Hooked on Mitford

I am a reader. I love fiction (though not all genres). One of my all-time favorite series is the Mitford series by Jan Karon. I’ve read them all several times.

The main character is an Episcopal priest that lives in a small town in the mountains of North Carolina. I know…it didn’t really grab you, did it? But there is just something so charming about these stories that it makes you feel homesick. Like you were meant to live in Mitford but somehow fate dealt you an unlucky blow.

I’ve even wondered if I should switch over to Episcopalianism.

This is well-written Christian fiction. It’s wholesome and clean. It’s funny, cozy, friendly. It will encourage you as a Christian, and make you want to come back.

There are seven books in the series, plus gift books and cookbooks (food factors largely). Ms. Karon has recently started a new series about Father Tim, and the first book, Home to Holly Springs, lived up to it predecessors.

Next time you’re looking for a good read, take a trip to Mitford. Meet you there!

Julia is hosting Hooked on Fridays at her blog Hooked on Houses.

My mother-in-law and her mom adored that series, but I never tried it. Probably for the reason you wrote about--the premise just didn't grab me. But seeing that there's someone in my age group who enjoyed them might change my mind. :)

I loved this series, too. You are right, there was just something about it.

I still remember one of the opening descriptions of his encouner with that big smelly dog that had me in stitches!

Great books!

I read all of these, but thought they got a little weaker as the series continued-- I guess the same as movie sequels. But Mitford did sound like a wonderful place to live !

I've never been a fiction reader, but it sounds like a neat book.

I have an award for you at my blog:

Hey, Holly, I'm so glad you stopped by. I've been seeing your name around blogland & just added you to my Google reader (what's another blog, right..with all the millions already!). And I'm like you, spend way too much time trying to stay caught up with bloggin & reading. Impossible!

Anyway, great to meet you, thanks for having me on your bloglist. I also love the Mitford series & read all the first one. I know there is a new one now & I must get it. My reading has slowed down since I started blogging & I hate that!

I absolutely LOVE your new coffee table. That is a lucky find, you did great. I can't wait to see what you do with it. Layla is great, got to meet her in person & just love her. Anyway, hope you'll come back again. You may have commented before, I just don't remember...sorry, too many of you out there!

Oh, and that base is exactly like my diningroom table, so of course I love it. It's called Empire in case you wanted to know.

Ok, last post today. I just read your hubby's thriftstore post & I was laughing out loud. There is NO way in heck my hubby would be caught dead in a thriftstore. What a good sport your's is. That was priceless!

You are the second blogger who I have seen post about these books - it must be a sign that I should check them out.

By the way, I am REALLLLLLY hoping you will be featuring Thrift Store Thursday this week because I MAJORLY SCORED at a few garage sales this morning when I was out with all my Sister-in-laws, cousin-in-laws, nieces, aunt-in-laws and uncle-in-laws.

Picture this - 20 of us crazy Cramps jumping from garage sale to garage sale through the beautiful town of Meaford! We were a sight.
