Thrift Store Thursday

Okay, check it. After our garage sale a couple of weeks ago, we took the leftovers to Goodwill. A few days later I was in Goodwill, and what should I see but my glider.IMG_2744 I bought this glider at GW in Kentucky seven years ago. I believe I paid $30 for it. I spray-painted it white and covered the cushions with pillowcases. It has a little catch when you glide all the way back. The paint was chipped (trust me, it looks quite a bit better in the photo than it did in reality). My price on it at our sale was $15, with the idea that someone might barter down to $10. What price did GW have on it? Sixty dollars! $60? Whatever! Our GW has such ridiculous prices. However, it was gone a few days later, so I guess someone thought it was a good deal.

Anyway. My finds were slim this week. Nothing from Goodwill, even though I was there twice. Today at United Volunteers I found a few books and a cute little basket. My total was under $2.

Since that was so meager, I decided to feature something I got at a garage sale a few weeks ago and forgot to show.

IMG_2794I paid $5 for this little antique dressing table. It needs a little work, but I thought it would make a cute desk for Pinkerbelle. She accessorized it herself.

And here is a gratuitous close-up of Pinkerbelle at 11 months, just because.IMG_2795 What a punkin’! Sigh. My baby.

Alrighty. We’re going to give Mr. Linky another chance. Show us whatcha got!

Our Goodwill has tons of leftovers from Target. I bought a rocker at GW once and that same week found it at my local Target for HALF of what I paid at GW! Killed me. oy.

You must have the same Goodwill I do! Their prices are nuts! I once found an item I recognized as coming from the Dollar Tree--GW was asking $1.50!

I have noticed the same thing at Value Village here. I found stuff there a few months ago that I had JUST seen at the dollar store and they were selling it for $3-5. Ridiculous! I love the dressing table for pinkerbelle, it's so cute. Unfortunately, I have nothing to show this week.

Hi Holly,
Sorry about your lack of luck this week, but I do think that basket is great.
The glider thing is crazy, isn't it? Amazing how people will overpay at Salvation Army or GW, but you can hardly give them away at your yard sale! Ugh!
Oh well. It's not taking up space in your home anymore and now you can find another thrifty treasure, right?
Thanks for hosting again this week.

I ditto everyone on the Goodwill prices. I rarely go to our Goodwills anymore b/c it's just ridiculous. I like our Salvation Army a lot! :)

The little dressing table is adorable, and I love the books you got!!! :)

What is up with the GW prices...here in Oklahoma where we seem to pay cheaper prices one almost everything, the GW has New York prices....so weird. I think I posted a while back about a $2.00 lamp...well, I finally did the makeover and it is on the front page of my blog. Mr. Linky wasn't working when I got here.

I love that little basket....how cute is that?

I can't believe no one paid the $15from your garage sale. It looks like a great glider!

Sometimes I feel like our GW prices are outrageous and then very reasonable at other times. I guess it's all in whose doing the pricing that day!?

Holly, I placed a link from my post to you...thanks!

I just found your blog - coming through from VTT. I hope you don't mind if I post a link to my VTT entry - I did get it at a thriftstore that is part of an independent small chain - not goodwill or Salvation Army, or St. Vincent.

I can't believe you found your own chair at GW. Our GW rarely has furniture, but our Salvation Army charges ridiculous prices. I truly can't believe that anyone pays that much for what to me seems like over priced junk. Oh well.

Your little dressing table is adorable. I love the curved shape, very girly.

Our Goodwill has crazy prices too. In fact, I've written about it before on the 'ole blog.

Love the little dressing table. You will have fun with that. Great price too.

We are participating in Thrift Store Thursday again this week.

Oh and would love to have you come by and check out our giveaway.

That little dressing table is adorable!

On a totally different note - do you mind if I feature your alphabet balls on my Teach me Tuesday next week? Let me know if that's cool!

How funny that you saw your glider at the GW. We had a similar experience with a chair here...we sent it to our Value Village and it was $60. I was half upholstered and the back was falling off. Ridiculous! But all that to say, I'm heading there in a few minutes. :) I'm dying to see if they have any white ironstone pitchers.

How funny that you would see your glider at GW!

I went to 2 large church rummage sales and got some great deals!

See that white lamp on your table off to the right? I found a blue one for $1 and it works! I'm going to paint it white for my daughter's room. I just need to find a new shade.

I also got a huge set of cardboard building blocks for only $3!
