Tuesday’s Tips and Tricks: Salvage Your Kids’ Holey Jeans

Win super cool photography from my newest sponsor!

My kids’ jeans and other pants often end up with holes in the knees.  Or sometimes they get too short before the waist gets too small.  When this happens, they aren’t fit either to donate (in the case of holes) or to wear in public, IMO.  Rather than turn them into rags, I get more use out of them by cutting the legs off and making shorts.

Sometimes I hem them, but most of the time I don’t bother.  The cut-offs then become play wear.  If the kids want to play outside in the creek, this is what they wear.  When they go to church camp for a week in the summer, this is what we pack.  They get to be kids, and I don’t care if the cut-offs get muddy, wet, or torn.  It keeps us all happy!

I do this same thing with winter pj's. I cut off the long sleeves and the legs and the they get another half a year of use as summer pj's. :)

We do the same thing around here. It's wonderful to have shorts that I REALLY don't care what they do in, or how dirty they get sliding down the dirt pile. :)

Holly this is just what I needed today!!! Our 8 yr old had a huge hole in the knee of his black jeans and needs to be able to wear them (as the school year is almost over) but they just aren't presentable.

I am going to cut them off this afternoon. I may need to hem them so they are OK for school but I sure appreciate the great tip!

Can't believe I forgot about cutting off pants! LOL

Yep, I do that too. I'm almost always too lazy to hem them though.

I had a tip, but I got sidetracked today. It's a short tip. I'll save it for next week.

This is the perfect idea for my youngest---she's getting taller, but not much bigger around the waist. I should do this with all of her current "high water" jeans. ;) Thanks for the tip, Holly!
