Quick Organizational Project

On the back of the pantry door, I have a shoe organizer that holds all kinds of junk supplies.  Over the last couple of years some of the pockets have started to rip and it’s become less and less organized.  Time to redo it.

I wanted to get a canvas shoe organizer and somehow label the pockets, but never did find one I wanted at a price I wanted to pay.  A few weeks ago when I was at Old Time Pottery, I found an inexpensive one made of some kind of pressed fiber…I’m not sure what it actually is, but you’ve seen it.

I made a list of all the categories I wanted and then mapped out where I wanted each category to go (top row, bottom row etc.).  I used a sharpie to label the pockets.  Sliding a piece of cardboard in each pocket as I wrote kept it from bleeding through.

Then I hung it on the door and filled up the pockets.  I threw out a lot of clutter that was in the old organizer.

This is one of those projects that was super quick and easy but very satisfying.  This wasn’t on my Home Goals list specifically, but I’ve been meaning to do it for a while, and it feels good to have it done.  Maybe this is the kick in the pants I needed to start on some other projects.

I set out to make one of those out of canvas... I quickly realized it was much more work than I wanted to go to. I prefer easy things like pillow covers or curtains. So that is as far as I ever got with it.

I remember the one made of denim that I had as a kid. It was great. It was full of Barbies and whatever else I could think of. It was on the back of my bedroom door.

They are so simple yet wonderful. :o)

This organizier is such a great idea. Everything is container but right there so it is handy for the family to get what they need and to also put it away.

I'm really curious about Old Time Pottery. If I'm ever in an area that has one, I'm going!

That's a good tip! If I had a "free" door I'd use it. ;) I like that everything is easily accessible right in front of you--no digging through a box or cupboard. You have nice handwriting, by the way. ;)

I use shoe organizers in my daughter's room for accessories and stuff. I've used them for cleaning supplies too, but mine are all getting gross and ripped. I love the idea of using that kind to label. Plus, you can't see all the junk inside. Mine are clear, which I hate. This is much better! Thanks for the tip!

My home is so far gone I wonder if I could hire an organizer. Hmm. Would I ever after be able to find anything? :) Great idea!

What a great idea. The best part is it seems like it'd be easy to keep up because you know exactly where everything's supposed to go :)
