Tuesday’s Tips and Tricks: Brow Gel

I am not blessed with shapely eyebrows.  Left to their own devices, they are somewhat thick and straight across.  Not unlike Brooke Shield’s famous brows, but I’m not getting any super model contracts. For years I didn’t even tweeze them; I found it too painful.  But I’m over that, and I do my best to keep them groomed now, although I’m still not brave enough to have them waxed or threaded.

I can’t believe I’m showing you this, but here’s a side-by-side comparison, ten years ago on the left (scary!), and more recently on the right.  The one on the right isn’t perfect by any means, but certainly it’s an improvement.

However, even thinned out, they are archless.  Brushing them up gives them a more pleasing shape, but it doesn’t stay put.

Now I use Maybelline’s Clear Mascara to hold them in place.

Love this stuff!  It does a good job of keeping my brows tamed, shaped, and in place.  Plus it’s under $5, well within the budget.

I love clear mascara for brows! There's only one place in town I trust to wax my eye brows, and they closed. :s I think the girl moved to another spa, but I'm not sure. I had a bad experience (okay, two bad experiences), so I have to be careful where I go. I try to keep up with tweezing, but I can only do so much. :s My advice if you get it done? Ask for a cup of ice BEFORE they wax, and immediately afterward, put the ice on your brows. It helps me. :)

i have such bushy eyebrows that i used to have them waxed twice a week...and i hated it until i found an old german lady that did them for me--she would rub my brows with the pads of her fingers and pat my cheek with her cold hands immediately after pulling the wax off and i tell you..although it hurt, it really lessened the pain..something about the combination of cold and the patting sensation really helped improve the waxing..just a tip if you decide to start waxing!

Can I just tell you that it's awesome that in your 10 years later picture you actually look younger? I get my brows threaded. It doesn't hurt much at all compared to waxing and there is no burning or redness afterward. I go to the same gal all the time. She told me to stop plucking my own because she could tell I was right handed... in other words, my DIY brows were quite lopsided. oops

Fun party!

I agree with Vivienne. You do looks younger in the 2nd picture. I've only had mine waxed once. I usually just pluck. The best time to do it is in the car, in the natural light - only if Hubby is driving though. Great tip with the clear mascara stuff. I always just use hair gel, if I use anything at all. I'm kinda lazy about it.

My mom told me she does that! You know I've never plucked my eyebrows, except for a stray one here and there. I so need to get with fashion!

I was too slow.
