Finally Embracing Fall

I've been so productive this week! Even Handsome has commented on it. Today I put together the fall arrangement for the front door using my newly painted wire basket. Kimba showed some great faux leaves she found at Joann Fabrics, and since that was just what I was looking for, I trotted on over there. I did not find the convincing leaves she had, but I did find the Chinese lanterns. My mom used to grow these, so it was a little nostalgia trip for me when I first saw them on Kimba's blog, and I had to have some! I did also get a different leaf arrangement.

They were in bunches, you know how they're all attached on one big pick? I used a wire cutter to cut them into individual stems. I replaced the coco liner that came with my basket, put some green floral foam down inside it and stuck the stems in. I'm no floral designer by a long shot, but I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

If anybody's out there, let me know what you think. Does it need a bow or something?

** (Oct. 6) I'm going to enter this post in Kimba's Halloween/Fall Party since it's pretty much my only fall decor, and since it was Kimba that inspired me to go to Joann's. Be sure to stop by the party! P.S. I haven't had a chance to get some ribbon for a bow yet.

Ack! I accidentally put the wrong link on Kimba's blog! New to blogging, and already goofing up. If you made it here, thanks for sticking with me.

And, finally, here it is with the bow. The photo makes it look a little brighter than it is in reality.

Very cute and particularly striking against the black door.

I think a bow would be the finishing touch to that very pretty fall basket. It looks great!

Hi Holly...Just getting back to you about the boxed bottom on the purses. If you have any tote bags at home that have a boxed bottom, turn them inside out and take a look. Basically you just sew a line across each end(while inside out) so that it looks like a triangle that you could cut off. Turn right side out and now the purse could stand on it's own it the placemat is stiff enough in the first place. Hope that's clear. If not, I can add one more photo to that post for anyone who has the same question. : )

I loved you basket. A bow would be nice too but it is charming without as well.

I think your basket looks great as is. I think a bow might add a nice extra touch but it's really pretty without one (especially against your black door). :)

A nice amber colored bow would look nice. Love black doors. Nice decoration.

Add me to the list of admirers of your front door!! Oh, so pretty...and you did very well on your floral basket. I think a bow would be perfect.

Love it, but I do think it needs a little something. I am pretty anti-bow though. I would prefer something like a little ghost or bat until halloween, then you could replace it with something a bit more Thanksgiving-ish.

I love it! I have a hanging basket like it, only a little smaller. I think I'll be spray painting it really soon. (Right now I think it's an ugly shade of green lol)

I like your blog layout/art too, very.. sophisticated.

Hello! The door arangement looks great. I need to take the plunge and do something like that too! I also love the black front door. I've been seeing around blogland that lots of gals have painted their doors black. I hope my hubby will go for it!
