Works-for-me Wednesday: Junk Drawer Alternative

**If you made it here via Kimba's Halloween party, please go here instead. I apologize for initially putting the wrong link.

This week is a themed WFMW--kitchen organization. I need all the help I can get in this department, but thought I'd share something I do that helps with all the miscellaneous junk. I hang a clear pocketed shoe organizer on the back of my pantry door.

As you can see, there's really no organization going on inside the pockets. Instead, it is a place for me to put all the things that I don't know where else to put. It contains the kids' art supplies, such as crayons, paints, stickers, scissors, and so on, so they know where to look when they need something. It also holds Tylenol and ibuprofen, cough remedies, and the thermometer. These are placed up higher, but my kids are older and know not to get into this stuff.

I can think of other ways someone could use this to help organize. Of course, the obvious use in the pantry would be for small items such as spices, seasoning mix packets, or Jello. Someone with younger children could put a day's worth of approved snacks in the lower pockets, like boxes of raisins, granola bars, a baggy of Goldfish crackers or whatever. You could even label a pocket for each child, so they know what belongs to them.

Branching out from the kitchen, how about:
--the back of the garage or mudroom door for mittens and hats
--inside your closet door for jewelry
--the back of the linen closet or bathroom door for shampoo, toothpaste, and other toiletries
--in the kids' rooms for Barbies or Hotwheels

Be sure to stop by Rocks in My Dryer for everybody else's organization tips!

I love this way to organize. I first used these shoe pocket organizers on our trip to Disney! They held our sunscreen, bathroom supplies, visors, camera accessories etc.
Now I have them in each bathroom (I have zero counter space). and in my bedroom for out of small season items.

Love your Blog! The header is so beautiful. Great tip.

I think putting all my first aid stuff in one of these would be a great idea.

You just gave me a great idea for moving our "junk" drawer from the kitchen to the back of my office door -- thus giving me yet another drawer in my kitchen to use for actual kitchen items. Thanks!

Man, this really is a great idea! Now I just need to find some wall space to hang one up :) I'll definitely have to try it out.
